Division And Fear In Silicon Valley

Uncrunched

I have not seen any issue that has divided Silicon Valley so deeply since first moving there in 1992 as this Mozilla thing has.

I’m not talking about the blogs, even this one. I’m talking about very emotional disagreements breaking out on Twitter and Facebook between people I respect and who until recently thought that they saw these issues of equality, tolerance and freedom the same way.

The worst of what I’m seeing is this – people who have steadfastly supported gay rights (and minority rights in general) but don’t like seeing how Eich is being treated are being called bigots and worse by their colleagues.

At some point soon everyone is just going to exhaust themselves, and an uneasy truce will emerge.

But the long term fallout seems to me to be that a lot of people simply won’t say what they think any more out of fear of…

i love Nature-Box Review

This past November I lucked up by stumbling upon a promo that was being ran by Nature Box on getting my first deluxe box for only 9.95 (originally 19.95) and what a deal it was!!!

When I  first got the box i was skeptical of the snacks, but then I tried them and loved them so much that I decided to keep my subscription open for another month. The second month getting  a whole different box full of tasty snacks. (the box shown below).

In my efforts to up my gym life I’ve recently signed up for a second gym membership so I decided to try to rethink my monthly spending budget. Now, although they were tasty and I really enjoyed them, my frugal self thought I should go’on ahead n give them the ‘X’ ( along with Hulu lol). So, after negotiating myself into cancelling I then called their customer service number. The guy who picked up the line was AWESOME!!!I must admit… I ALWAYS take notes on a great customer service experience, and just like I am doing in this case, will be happy to share it with as many people as possible,.

The Phone call

“Nature Box- Brian speaking how can I help I help you?”

Me: “Hi, I love Nature Box, But I am calling to cancel my subscription”

Brian: “Ok, I can help you with that, but before we go forth can you tell me exactly why you wish to cancel with us today?”

Me: ” Well, like I said…I love it but it just doesn’t fit in my budget right now 😦 “

Brian: “Ok, I can understand that. Well…we value you as a customer, so what if we offered you a promotional discount of $9.95 a month for the next three months and then, after the three months is up you can still continue to enjoy our services at a discounted monthly rate of $14,95 a month after that.

*inserts EASY PEASY button here*

ummmm yeah!!! I could NOT resist that!!! Not only do they offer 5 tasty snack packs in Vegan, Non-Gmo,Gluten-Free and Healthy options, but they also have extremely great customer service and a fully customizable snack menu ( so if you get snacks you do not like the first month or just want to try something new, you can choose totally new ones 🙂  I’d highly recommend them!!!

sn: if you DO decide to subscribe, do so through my link so we both can get $10 off our boxes 😉

or click here get $10 off your first box ( no scam,I promise I do NOT work for them!)—–> http://fbuy.me/wdZM

Legalize the Truth: Black History

This Black History Month has been a very inspiring, encouraging, and self accepting one I must say. For starters, 2014 marks the ten year mark of my high school graduation. I’m sure this may be a factor in the extreme amount of self perspective that I have been gaining in recent times,

I’ve always thought of myself as “Down” or “Educated ” about my myself and my people. Until last semester I had the privilege of taking an African-American history class at Community College. Now, to be clear, I am not talking about the type of class that specialized in the dilution given to me in other “So-called” history courses. This was indeed a seasoned old man ,who wore a head full of gray hair and a walking stick to prove it. He had visited Africa, learned culture, worked through the 60’s and and had required no book for his class, because he just knows this information like the back of his hand ( I’m so sure because I was very skeptic at first, yep, one of those annoying ones a who would go home and do research on the things he would tell us just to make sure I wasn’t being misinformed by a crazy old man-no pun;).

Halfway through the course he introduced to us a movie called  ” Goodbye Uncle Tom”. I get tears just thinking about the impact this movie had on my soul. All I  had known about slavery was from movies like roots and the award winning 12 Years a Slave, Which were very good movies, but the scale of Goodbye Uncle Tom was RAW. It documented the horrificness of the slave trade to such great detail that you would have to see it to believe it. After watching this and internalizing the fact that I really knew NOTHING about myself or my history I began to take it on as a subject of interest. A little afterward I was introduced to a documentary titled ” Hidden Colors” by a friend. This was a detailed chronological documentary recognizing the undermining of the many great achievements of blacks from early years to present. Many of these contributions lended not only to the shaping of America and its present culture, but the entire world around us.

There is a story to be told…in fact many of them. So in these past few months I have been trying to wrap my mind It has been gone to great lengths to intentionally withhold history from a people who have been stripped completely of their culture as a whole. I have many white friends who confidently know their history to the point where they can run it down as if it were an elevator speech, years and all. So now my question is, why?…and how? Do we >> EVERYONE<< make this world a better place for the future of humanity .

Gertchu (as mentioned above although her real name is Gertrude-long story) Is a furry little feline we adopted about a year ago. Although a bit skiddish at times she’s one of the best cats I’ve ever “known”. -Cuddles like a kitten, snores like a man and eats like a lion… Ohhh what more could you ask for?!! lol

Favorite thing to do: Sleep

Least favorite: anything involving flash photography

Thanks for checking her out!

Refreshment wrapped in: Orange

Have you ever left a tangerine in your gym bag for two days!….yep that dark room developed me the sweeeeeeetest tangerine ever, for someone who repeatedly has bad luck with citrus fruits-I take back every negative thing I’ve ever said about these yummies!

It was like a small test of summer stepping out of the steaming hot sauna to a tangerine ripened to ultimate perfection (no exaggeration haha).

These darn fingers of mine!

My natural hair journey has ended up being a whole lot more than I initially bargained for, in a good way!  It has allowed me to work on my research skills and practice patience during my sessions of how-to videos via YouTube. The videos have been more than phenomenal in making this transition back to natural one with more options than just looking like a hot ass mess everyday.  I have learned soooo much from the naturalistas before me, that I wish I could repay them somehow!  …and then I realized, hey, I can do alil video-making of my own. Then, after an entire day of playing around with some videomaker on my tablet andnintroducing it to YouTube these fingers said “hey! This ISSs kinda fun!!”

The next day my creation had 17 WHOLE views haha (this number is low compared to the billions of people who watch some of my favorite vloggers like  Naptural85 and Joulezy)but hey its a start! And a very fun one. I have no expectations to become youtube famous or anything. Just extremely exciited to have found a new hobby that will hopefully help someone a half as much as my favorite youtubers have helped me.

….Never know, this skill may be useful one day

Naughty Gal

ok, so Im gonna let you in on alittle secret. This secret is very stupid, so if you tell people they’ll think I’m some crazy chick… okay… here it is…You ready?

– I am a product junkie!..yesss the big PJ!!! lol not only with like hair stuff, but nail polish, scarfs, body stuff….home remedies. You name it. I’ve probably tried everything under the sun, most recent being Apple Cider Vinegar-YUCK!

I originally picked up a bottle of Braggs Organic ACV because of all the raving reviews I’ve see from people using it on their hair- and I must admit…I incorporated it into my last wash day ( with the straighten and trim) and my hair is literally theeeeee softest that I have ever found it to be without leaving the salon. Even three days later! I’d absolutely co-sign this product for hair rinse, does wonders! However, that’s not why I said YUCK earlier.

Last week right before Aunt Florina decided to visit I began to drink a teaspoon in of ACV in my tea. Here are the observations:

1. It was extremely disgusting and hardly maskable with even the Rawest of raw honey ( the paste kind)

2. The acidity gave me a case extreme heart burn ( which I never get)

3. It made a bunch of little itchy pimples pop up all over my face ( YES this is the problem)

Now me being the soldier that I am, tried to disregard the bumps on my face and blame them on Aunt Florina. I let my face clear up and then, even with the terribleness of #1 and #2, on Sunday I decided to politely have another cup of Diluted ACV with raw honey. Monday my entire body itched!!!! and those damn tiny bumps are back and  I woke up today with the same symptoms!! The good thing is my city is -8 degrees outside today so I don’t have to leave the house and expose my stupid rash. GRRRR!!

Dear ACV,

I’m done with our drinking relationship! But my hair loves you, so in that case you may stay in the cupboard

Daniel fast

Last night I had a conversation with my sister regarding our take on Beyonce and the Illuminati stuff. She showed me the disturbing photo of her blocking out Jesus in the photo of him and the 12 disciplines that has had the media in an uproar. Now apparently this woman is beginning to think she has so much money that she can buy her way into heaven.

-sorry boo! It don’t work like that, when the day of judgement comes we will relinquish our       earthly possessions and all be on one accord as to what monetary and material things we have had on this earth. Yes YOU too Ms. Beyonce!!

But its not my place to judge, I just hope that some of her worshippers can now pull the wool from their eyes. God strictly forbids the worship of idols and I don’t want anything to do with making the big man mad. However, the conversation made me think for the past 24 hrs as to where I spend more of my own time. What are the things that keep me from having my relationship with Jesus a number priority one time consumer…..and as much as it hurts to say it, what AM I worshipping (gulp)…. The three things that came to mind were social network, my hair and of course lazing around. Time snatchers!

So this year for the first time I will be participating in the Daniel fast with her for 21 days. From my understanding, I will be eating only fruit, veggies, and fish; as well as eliminating some of my biggest distractions from my daily life. During this time I will invest in reading my bible and building a stronger relationship with God.

I am hoping this time of dedication can bring clarity, healthy habits and rid my mind of any uncanny desires that get in the way of my faith. I am also hoping this gives me a better understanding of Gods voice and his purpose for me,as well as ways that I can uses social media to glorify my father.

Dont wait until the New Year

This time of year is notoriously known as a period of both reflection and new beginnings. I am no exception.  2013 has been very good to me in ways, and very humbling in others. After being layed off in the summer, I was given a chance to reflect and rediscover “self” . I have always been the very social outgoing type, but when finances restrict you, you really have no choice but to spend time with YOU. For this I am grateful. This past few months has opened so many doors of discovery that I had never knew existed.

First and foremost I have learned to trust God’s will and Promises, and along the way I have also learned

…. to be myself

…. to be creative

…. to take care of my health

….about my history

….about the food system and our environment

…. to be financially frugal

…. as well as ALOT about friendship and LOVE

With that being said I will be taking my new found knowledge (and vegetarianism) into the new year. I have been sketching out  3 big plans that I would like to achieve during this lifetime -God willing. So stay tuned for updates!!!
